For years, the term Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) has been used to describe one of the most common hormonal and metabolic conditions affecting women and people with ovaries. But many providers, researchers, and patients have started asking an important question: Does the name “PCOS” actually reflect what this condition truly is? Because despite the name, many individuals with PCOS:
- do not actually have ovarian cysts
- experience symptoms that extend far beyond the ovaries
- struggle with whole-body symptoms including inflammation, insulin resistance, nervous system dysregulation, pelvic pain, bowel and bladder dysfunction, fatigue, fertility challenges, painful periods, weight changes, chronic stress patterns, and more
This is why conversations around renaming PCOS — including terms like PMOS (PolyMetabolic Ovarian Syndrome) or other more metabolically-focused language — have started gaining momentum. The goal is not simply to rename a diagnosis. The goal is to better acknowledge the complexity of what so many women are actually experiencing. And honestly? We think that matters.
PCOS Is Not “Just a Hormone Problem”
PCOS can affect:
- metabolism
- inflammation
- stress response
- pelvic health
- digestion
- fertility
- sleep
- energy levels
- body image
- mental health
- nervous system regulation
- connective tissue and musculoskeletal health
Which means support often needs to go far beyond:
- “just lose weight”
- “just go on birth control”
- “just regulate your cycle”
Because symptoms are rarely isolated. Everything in the body is connected.
So Where Does Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Fit In?
This is one of the most common questions we hear. Pelvic floor physical therapy can support individuals with PCOS/PMOS by addressing:
- chronic pelvic pain
- painful intercourse
- abdominal and pelvic tension
- low back or hip pain
- bowel dysfunction and constipation
- bladder urgency or leakage
- nervous system dysregulation and chronic stress patterns
- breathing mechanics and pressure management
- scar tissue or fascial restrictions
- movement and strength support
- exercise guidance that feels sustainable and safe
- whole-body mobility and circulation
At The Nest, we also recognize that many individuals with PCOS have experienced years of feeling dismissed, unheard, or disconnected from their bodies. Our goal is never simply symptom management. Our goal is helping you better understand your body and creating support that feels collaborative, individualized, and sustainable.
Holistic Care Matters
There is no single “quick fix” for PCOS. And there is rarely one single root cause. That’s why holistic, collaborative care can be so powerful. At The Nest Wellness Collective, we are incredibly grateful to have a multidisciplinary team that can support individuals through many different layers of healing and wellness. We’re also honored to collaborate with Kathryn Faraj of Integro Health to help support:
- hormone assessment
- cycle tracking and education
- functional lab evaluation
- inflammation and metabolic health support
- lifestyle and nervous system support
- fertility optimization
- individualized wellness planning
Whether you’re:
- newly diagnosed
- wondering if your symptoms are “normal”
- navigating fertility challenges
- struggling with painful cycles
- feeling disconnected from your body
- or simply looking for answers
You deserve support that sees the whole picture. And we would be so happy to support you.
